Gatorade Brigade

During Band Camp in August, HBPA provides Gatorade and water to the marchers.  Several parents are needed to help pour the drinks for the kids.  Usually, shifts are 2 hours long.  There are sign-up sheets at the July and August HBPA meetings.

Pit Crew

Pit Crew are the volunteers who help get the props and front ensemble equipment out onto the field at competitions. Pit crew gets to see the show up close and personal. Minimal skills are required but you are expected to carry/pull/push items such as instruments and props. Opportunities to help include: driving trucks, moving equipment and props, repairing equipment, setting up and tearing down.

Field Maintenance

Responsible for maintaining the practice field during the year.

Concessions

HBPA runs the concessions during the home football games and the Southeast Virginia Music Games (SEVMG).  There are people who make the food (grill) and sell the items.  You can sign up for one or more games during the season. Concessions are a fun way to meet other in the HHS band family.  Plus you WILL get to see your marching Hawk perform!!! Volunteer Sign-ups for events will be available on CHARMS.

Uniform Fitting and Uniform Washing

Make sure marching uniforms and guard outfits are cared for. Assist in fitting band members for uniforms during the early marching season. Help with uniform collection post-performances and assist with regular washing.

Chaperones

Help chaperoning and supervise band members during football games and competitions. Chaperones get to know the band members and see the show up close. Help band members with their uniforms and get ready for the field show. May help provide water during practice and events. Chaperones may be asked to ride on the buses with band members to the competitions and events (some overnight). All chaperones’ rooms and transportation costs are covered by the band.

Southeastern Virginia Music Games (SEVMG)

This is our BIGGEST single fundraiser of the year.  The help of most of our parents is needed for this day, which is usually the last Saturday in September.  There will be sign-up sheets at the summer band meetings for different volunteer opportunities.  Also, there is a separate page on this website that will address the games and volunteer needs.

Fundraising

Many times help is needed at fundraiser item delivery time.  This requires only a few hours of commitment, but is greatly appreciated.  Fundraising chairpeople will let parents know if they need help.

Craft Show

In November, HBPA sponsors a craft show at HHS.  Many people are needed to set up and break down the tables for the show.  Students also help the vendors set up their tables.  Concessions also needs help during the show.

Leadership Roles

There are many different committees that help to keep HBPA running.  Each committee needs a chairperson and members to enable it to run effectively.  Please attend the HBPA meetings to learn about these wonderful opportunities to be a part our program.
